Held Back By Technical Issues

But in 2018, they found the excitement was held back by the very thing that was supposed to drive them forward — technology.
Pattison had prioritized creating ‘smart spaces’ in their head office, including top-of- the-line automated systems for heat, lighting, entertainment and more. When the systems needed service, the JPG team was left waiting days, and weeks for maintenance, during which time they would be completely unusable, leaving them in the dark.

A Below-The- Surface Overhaul
The JPG team had to face the facts: the way they were doing things wasn’t working. That’s when they brought in Chris from Intersystem.
“We had struggled with two other service providers, but from the moment we met Chris, all our difficulties were fixed almost immediately. Quickly and clearly, he explained what had to happen, and how they were going to manage the situation.”

First, Chris and the Intersystem team rewrote all the system’s backend coding, making it more efficient, more direct, less prone to malfunction and error. Intersystem chose to do this without altering the front-end user interface. Pattison and the team were used to what they had, and they didn’t want to spend time learning a whole new system from scratch.

Another priority was making sure the system could detect and remedy failures itself, so the JPG team wouldn’t need to keep spending hours waiting for service people. The new system self- heals any initial signs of trouble, and notifies a monitoring system of anything it can’t resolve. Immediately, the system is locked from use and all relevant parties are emailed so the error can be acted on quickly — whenever possible, that very same business day.

“Since Intersystem took over, we have not had a single problem with someone wanting to use the boardroom and not being able to,”
says Jim’s assistant of the presentation centre, previously the greatest area of concern.
The development has experienced just 20 minutes of downtime during operating hours since Intersystem took over in 2018.
When one critical failure, in the system’s main processor, occurred on a Saturday, Intersystem were notified immediately via the implemented monitoring system and had completely restored functionality less than an hour later.
